Interview Series: Sarah Scholler

Mama of 3 and co-founder
of The Village Markets.

We all have a different reason for learning how to meditate, what was your ‘WHY’?

Recently expanding our family from 4 to 5, meant little time to myself and as with the season of having a newborn, comes the extra stress of running a household, a business, caring for my eldest two, mum guilt.

I could go on. I felt compelled to learn having watched your (Nicole King’s) journey exploring meditation and couldn’t think of anyone I’d rather learn from. Nicole’s three-day course was a birthday gift from my husband.

What benefits (subtle or profound) have you felt since learning?

Even meditating for just one 20 minute session a day makes me feel as though I’ve had ‘me time', it’s almost like a guilty indulgence and I feel as though I’ve had a power nap. Importantly, I'm ready to conquer the 'witching hour’! I’m energised, focused and able to give my children the emotional support they need after a big day at Kindy or playing. If my 4 yo catches me mediating she tells her little sister to be quiet so I can finish.

I’ve noticed I’m calmer, more patient and diplomatic at home and have felt the urge to remove things from my life that don’t serve me. I’m more engaged with the people I want to spend time with… just surrounding myself with the people I love.

As an entrepreneur and business owner, have you experienced any creative shifts or increased clarity in your business since learning?

I feel since learning three months ago, I’m more efficient with my time and am able to complete tasks that have been on my to-do list for months. It’s made room for me to explore my creative side and make changes to my lifestyle that impact the way I work. I’m working on new and exciting projects and am happy to feel back in flow after having a baby.

What has surprised you most since learning how to meditate?

How easy it has become to practice and just how much I enjoy the process. Having been given the task by you (Nicole) of creating a habit and meditating for 21-days in a row, helped install my practice early on. Now it’s part of my every day.

What’s one piece of advice you would tell your younger self?

Don’t follow the pack and do what you love… its the only thing that will make you happy.

Which uplifting Insta accounts do you stalk? @thefemalewarhol @nicolekingwellbeing @tessguinery @jasminedowling @alisonlarsenrice

Anything else you’d like to say to mothers who are thinking of giving it a go? Learning meditation is the best thing I have done as a mother. I’m a better person for practising and that’s a win all round.
