Interview Series: Natasha Slade

Mama of 2, Business Owner -
The Fearless Society

How long have you been meditating?

I have tried unsuccessfully for the last two years. Recently I completed Nicole’s ONLINE mantra meditation course and I have really made the effort to show up at least once daily for myself.

Why did you learn?

I am a type A, high energy, monkey brained Mum of two who runs two businesses. I have known for a while that I needed to create space and clarity for myself and I knew for me, meditation could bring me that.

As you know, meditation changes your mind, brain & body, what benefits (subtle or profound) have you felt in your personal life since implementing a daily practising?

I have noticed that I am less reactive to small things that would normally be a big thing for me when I am sleep deprived (5-month-old haha)

How does the deeper connection to self, others and nature influence your day-to-day life?

I am becoming more confident and connected with myself and I am creating my dream future which has been amazing.

Putting on your entrepreneur and business owner cap, have you experienced increased performance, clarity or creativity within your business? Could you elaborate, please?

At this early stage, I find that I am able to focus on one thing at a time and being able to complete it more efficiently rather than multi-tasking and monkey braining and doing nothing to the best of my ability!

The exhaustive list of meditation benefits is kind of laughable, what has surprised you most since learning how to meditate (perhaps something the readers may not have heard of before).

For me not reacting like I normally would. Honey split all over would send me over the edge very quickly, I’m finding myself able to take a deep breath and deal with it or if I do have an outburst, being able to calm down a lot quicker.

As a mother, being disciplined and integrating a daily meditation practice that’s realistic for your lifestyle can sometimes be a challenge. Why do you think it’s important for mothers to prioritise a daily practice?

It’s more important for mothers that anyone! We are raising little human beings who are like sponges. The way our mental state it reflects on them and if that’s a negative mental state, our children are taking that on.

I have started practising mindfulness with my 3yo and I am so excited to be able to be the example for him, meditation will be second nature to him when he is my age, like brushing his teeth which is how it should be looked at!

I believe Mental Wellness is for everybody, what’s one piece of advice you would give to your 13-yr old beautiful self?

YOU ARE ENOUGH.
YOU HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ENOUGH AND YOU WILL ALWAYS BE ENOUGH.
IF YOU START LOVING YOU NOW, YOU ARE GOING TO SAVE YOURSELF SO MUCH HEARTACHE.

My dream is to work with the Australian Government to implement a national meditation program in all schools by 2025. Would you encourage your children to learn mindful techniques or meditation?

YES YES YES! I think this is the most incredible idea and I would 1000% support this. I have noticed placed like Kmart are now stocking children’s mindfulness books. I bought one for my 3yo today called ABC Mindful Me!

Which uplifting or inspiring Podcasts or Instagram accounts do you follow?

I love following Melissa Ambrosini. I get so much value and knowledge out of her content, Instagram and podcast. She was actually the person I learnt about mantra meditation from!

Do you have any other nuggets of wisdom to share with mothers who are thinking of giving meditation a go?

What have you got to lose? But there is potentially much to gain.

Thank you Tash xx
